LYING IS OKAY SOMETIMES….
When it is asked whether telling lies is okay, the thought that comes to our minds first is, “ No it is not good at all to tell lies”. This is because since our childhood we have been taught that we should not tell lies as it causes harm to others as well as ourselves. but sometimes it is wise to tell lies, especially in cases where the truth might hurt someone’s feelings.
I agree that it is not good to tell a lie but sometimes it becomes necessary to tell a lie, like in a situation where you are planning a surprise party for your friend. Will it not spoil the fun if your friend comes to know of the plans before hand?
On the contrary, imagine the pleasure of your friend when he sees the party and realizes that someone is there to care for him! To ensure that your friend knows nothing of your plans before hand, you tell him/her many lies. In such a case it is fair to tell lies. The lies told by the parents to their kids about the existence of Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and Cinderella are also justifiable.
Sometimes there are situations when speaking the truth can cause severe harm to the other individual while a lie can save someone’s life. For example the lies told to the Nazis by the people who gave refuge to the Jews, during the second World War. Lying is even a part of some professions like that of a secret agent . There are instances from which I think that it is okay to tell lies as long as the lie told is not going to hurt anyone and the lies are being told or the sake of someone’s good only. Thus when truth favours none, the lies, on the other hand, benefit people, lies are considered to be as good as truth.
